I have been fortunate in my martial art training. Although my core style is Shotokan, I have trained in various styles, and under many high ranking instructors. In 2017, on a trip to Japan, I was introduced to Master Kenjiro Kawanabe (Atsugi Japan) by Sensei Sada Honda. * There are 2 kinds of karate. Budo for martial arts & self defense. Sport for winning medals & trophies. Both have their place in training. Both are beneficial. * Karate is 85-90% feeling. Without feelings, spirit, & imagination you're only using muscles. * Practice DOES NOT make perfect...practice makes permanent. If you practice wrong, it will never be right. * Concentrate on the small things. Improving 1 small thing improves many big things

Why the Blog
At a recent clinic I was approached by some students suggesting, with my 60 yrs in the martial arts, I should put my thoughts & teachings in a blog. I don't represent this as fact or gospel. I still consider myself a student. I'm posting this blog not to change anyones mind, but to share my personal experiences & thoughts on karate (both do & jutsu)...no style, no politics..
