The TKA
The Traditional Karate-do Association (TKA) was formed in
1983. TKA’s chief instructor,
Sensei Chuck Kerrigan, has studied karate
for 40+ years. TKA is a member of the American Shotokan Karate Alliance (ASKA),
headed by Randall Hassell, 8th degree black belt, American karate
pioneer, and world-renowned author and Shotokan karate authority.
Our primary program is teaching karate as it was meant to
be taught—as an exercise and self-defense.
From the beginning students’ first class, they are
immersed in new and exciting methods to defend themselves. Students are taught
skills of body language, subconscious danger signals, and anticipating
dangerous situations. Sensei Kerrigan feels being always aware is just as
important as punching and kicking.
Sensei Kerrigan’s first Shotokan instructor was Osamu
Ozawa. Sensei Ozawa was a direct student of Gichin Funakoshi, the founder of
Shotokan Karate and the “Father of modern karate-do.” The TKA takes great pride
in its direct lineage from Funakoshi to Ozawa to Kerrigan.
Classes are offered by age and rank at a variety of days
and times to meet any schedule.
The constant evolution and growth of traditional karate
leads us to offer additional programs established for individual needs and
wants.
All classes are taught by ASKA Certified Black Belt
Instructors.
